Cheval Riding Club is based Jordanstown Oldtown Co Dublin Cheval have currently 35 members, we are extremely lucky to have an international dressage judge, Showjumping judges, course builder, HSI level 1 and 2 coaches all to name but few as members who are always on hand to share their skills to their fellow members,
Cheval Riding Club is the second oldest riding club in Ireland and was established in 1977. At the time there was very little for pleasure horse riders to do other than to hunt and the riding club was started to provide competition and a social outlet for like-minded people. Over the years the club grew from strength to strength. As well as competitions and social evenings being organised, seminars were held with a variety of speakers on everything equestrian.
In 1987, after much fund raising, land was purchased and the club finally had a home now knowns as Cheval Jordanstown Showground’s which are in Oldtown, Co. Dublin. Originally this was just a field and in wetter periods of the year we were forced to rent indoor premises in order to prevent damaging the ground. Popular venues in the past were Hollywood Rath, Gormanstown Equestrian Centre and Charlie Haughy’s over in Kinsealy.
In 1997, again after much fund-raising and a Leader Project Grant, the all-weather arena was built which meant the clubs showgrounds could be used all year round.
Cheval Riding Club is one of two clubs in Ireland with a facility such as this exclusively for the use of club members that is owned by the club. All riding members have unlimited, year-round access to the club showgrounds and facilities for training and schooling purposes. Every year the club committee organise competitions and other dates for the members and some of these are open to other clubs or to the general public. Cheval hosts training days, social hacks, Annual Charity Shows, horse and pony shows with fun competitions , over the years we had hosted Le Trec, Jump Cross, RDS Showjumping Qualifiers , Red Mills Master Series Jumping Qualifiers aswell as the Dressage Championship Qualifiers, I also believe the club used to have a 2 day horse show many many years ago
